"The way of Aikido is the way of love."
— Morihei Ueshiba
合
"ai" means harmony, union, or coming together. In Aikido, it refers to blending with an opponent’s movement rather than opposing it head-on. Instead of collision, the practitioner seeks connection, timing, and alignment, transforming conflict into cooperation.
気
"ki" is often translated as energy, spirit, or vital force. It represents both physical vitality and mental presence. In Aikido, cultivating ki means moving with calm focus, relaxed power, and awareness - allowing techniques to flow naturally and efficiently.
道
"do" means "the way" or "the path". It implies a lifelong journey of learning and self-development. In Aikido, practice is not only about technique, but about personal growth, discipline, and applying its principles beyond the dojo, in everyday life.
